Coffee Roaster

The Coffee Roaster is the location’s expert on coffee production, responsible for quality and efficiency in roasting, blending and packing of coffee, as well as a key aid to the green coffee procurement program. Coffee roasters’ scope of work starts at the cupping table, as a green coffee buying assistant, and ends as the roasted, packed coffee.
OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE
- Routinely maintain and clean all coffee roasting equipment, and track all inventory by weighing and portioning accurately.
- Collaborate with the team and brainstorm names and summaries for new coffee blends or single origin coffees.
- Ensure that all products are in line with the good manufacturing practices guidelines.
- Closely monitor the creation of each coffee roast by adjusting roaster settings as required.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
- Staging green coffee to meet daily production schedules
- Batch roasting coffee to spec set by Master Coffee Roaster/Production Manager.
- Work with Master Roaster to adjust roast profiles and blends as needed
- Coordinate with packaging team to pack out roasted product
- Performing roasting protocols as per company standard
- Conformance to production and administrative procedures

Master Coffee Roaster

Master coffee roasters design new coffee styles and ensure the quality of blends and recipes pragmatically. They write blending formulas to guide workers who prepare coffee blends for commercial purposes.
OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE
- The Master Coffee Roaster will be responsible for training all location staff on proper production operations, including roasting, stamping, heat sealing, weighing and shipping.
- The Master Coffee Roaster will be responsible for tracking and maintaining inventory levels of both green and roasted coffee
- The Master Coffee Roaster will manage the Roasting Schedule and ensure the Roasting Schedule is adhered to and updated with any changes.
- The Master Coffee Roaster will be responsible for roasting samples and hosting cuppings
- The Master Coffee Roaster will also be responsible for engaging in and carrying out roasting experiments in cooperation with the Director of Coffee Production.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
- Lead daily roasting activities including removing moisture from coffee beans, weighing batches of coffee, feeding beans into roasting oven and properly discharging roasted beans into cooling trays.
- Maintain proper temperature by observing the roaster thermometer and adjusting controls properly.
- Assess coffee quality objectively, detect and escalate any defects in the coffee.
- Responsible for roasting samples and hosting coffee tasting/cupping sessions.
- Maintain roastery clean and organized to ensure DC manufacturing best practices is followed.
- Conduct routine cleaning and scheduled maintenance of roasting and production equipment’s, establish a thorough working knowledge of all systems.
- Work with the Operations Team in roasting experiments, improving inventory accuracy and forecasting, along with consistency in roasting profiles.
- Manage Roasting schedule and work directly with Production Manager to ensure roasting scheduled is followed and updated with any changes.
- Operate day to day operations within established budgets, forecast and cost objectives.
- Maintain inventory levels to ensure fulfillment of store level needs for each of DC stores, as well as fulfillment of outside orders for local and international customers.

Sensory Analyst Technician/Q Grader

The Sensory Technician/Q Grader is part of the Quality Assurance Department and Research and Development (R&D) Department. The role is responsible for planning and running regular tests for the tasting panel to support category projects
OBJECTIVES OF THE ROLE
- Plans and executes tastings with guidance from a Specialist
- Analyses results and provides reports to Specialists or Managers in the team;
